Is This Right for You?

Private coaching is ideal if you’re experiencing moderate-to-severe public speaking anxiety and want personalized guidance tailored specifically to your situation. You might be dealing with:

âś“ Panic attacks or near-panic during presentations

âś“ Mind going blank when all eyes are on you

âś“ Avoiding career opportunities because of fear

âś“ Weeks of dread before an upcoming presentation

âś“ Physical symptoms (shaking, sweating, racing heart)

âś“ Difficulty speaking up in meetings

âś“ Fear that’s getting worse over time, not better

âś“ A specific high-stakes situation coming up

You don’t need to become a “great speaker.” You need to function—to get your message across, contribute in meetings, and pursue opportunities without panic holding you back. That’s exactly what we’ll work toward together.

What Makes This Different

This isn’t generic presentation coaching or “just push through it” advice. As a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) who has studied 60+ years of anxiety research, I understand the neuroscience behind why your brain and body react the way they do—and exactly how to retrain them.

🧠

Evidence-Based

The MAP System and DAART Protocol are built on proven research from cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, and activation control science.

🎯

Personalized Strategy

Your Personal Improvement Plan (PIP) is customized to your specific triggers, anxiety levels, and the exact situations you need to navigate.

📊

Measurable Progress

Your PIP includes numeric data to track your progress. You’ll have concrete evidence of improvement, not just vague feelings.

What We’ll Cover Together

Each session is tailored to exactly what you need. Here’s a typical starting framework:

1

Your Personal Improvement Plan (PIP)

We’ll collaboratively map out your specific goals, identify your current anxiety levels in different situations, and create a detailed action plan. Your PIP becomes your roadmap—showing exactly what to do and providing numeric benchmarks to track progress. This often takes 1-2 sessions to develop thoroughly.

2

MAP System & DAART Training

Learn the evidence-based techniques that actually work: Mindset Shifts to reframe how you think about anxiety, Activation Control to manage your nervous system in the moment, and Practice Smart strategies for building lasting confidence. We’ll work through the DAART Protocol (Detect & Disrupt, Anchor Your Attention, Allow, Ride the Wave, Take the Win) so you have a concrete toolkit for any speaking situation.

3

Situation-Specific Strategy

Have a big presentation coming up? A job interview? A wedding toast? We’ll strategize specifically for your upcoming speaking situations—what to prepare, how to apply DAART in that exact context, and how to redefine success so you can walk away feeling accomplished regardless of nerves.

4

Your Questions Answered

This is your time. Bring any questions—about the science behind anxiety, how to handle a specific scenario, what’s “normal,” whether medication might help, how to explain your anxiety to others, or anything else on your mind. No question is too small or too complex.

What Success Looks Like

Success isn’t about becoming perfectly calm or delivering flawless presentations. Success means:

Getting your message across clearly enough for your audience to understand—even if you feel nervous

Using your skills—applying MAP and DAART when anxiety shows up, instead of being hijacked by it

Showing up—not letting fear stop you from opportunities that matter to your career and life

“You’re not broken. Your brain and body are just responding to false alarms—and they can be retrained.”

— Dr. Cheryl Mathews, Psy.D.

Founder, SpeakCalmHQ

Dr. Cheryl Mathews holds a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree and has dedicated her career to helping professionals overcome public speaking anxiety. She created the MAP System and DAART Protocol by synthesizing over 60 years of research from cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, social anxiety treatment, and activation control.

Unlike generic presentation coaching that focuses on delivery skills, Dr. Cheryl’s approach addresses the underlying neuroscience of why your brain and body react the way they do—and provides proven techniques to retrain those responses.

Her methodology draws from the work of leading researchers including James Gross (emotion regulation); Martin M. Antony, David H. Barlow, David M. Clark, Michelle G. Craske, Robert L. Dupont, Richard G. Heimberg, Stephan Hofmann, Debra A. Hope, Michael Otto, David F. Tolin, Michael Treanor, Cynthia L. Turk, Claire Weekes, Adrian Wells, Manuel Zane, many more (anxiety, panic and phobia treatment); Richard J. Davidson, Andrew Huberman, many more (neuroscience); and Matt Abrahams and others (communication science)—translated into practical, actionable techniques that work in real-world speaking situations. She weaves it all together with her own experience with public speaking anxiety and panic.
