SpeakCalmHQ Practice Clubs
Your Safe Space to Build Speaking Confidence

What Happens in SpeakCalmHQ Practice Clubs?
Think of SpeakCalmHQ Practice Clubs as your gym for public speaking. Just as you wouldn’t expect to build muscle after one workout, you can’t conquer speaking anxiety without consistent practice. Our Practice Clubs give you the reps you need—in a safe, supportive environment designed specifically for people with public speaking anxiety.
A Place to Get Lots of Reps
Practice Clubs meet multiple times per week (Mon-Sat), giving you unlimited opportunities to practice. Each session provides a structured yet flexible space where you can:
- Practice impromptu speaking (respond to questions on the spot with no preparation)
- Choose your comfort level and gradually increase difficulty as you build confidence
- Practice with prepared material (a presentation, speech, or talk you’re working on)
Unprepared vs. Prepared: Your Choice
You have complete flexibility in how you practice:
✓ Come Unprepared (most common)
We’ll provide impromptu speaking exercises tailored to your anxiety level. The facilitator will adjust the difficulty to keep you in the “sweet spot” of anxiety (4-6 on a 10-point scale)—challenged but not overwhelmed. For the first session, we like to start in the 1-4 anxiety range and work up to the 4-6 anxiety range at your pace.
✓ Come Prepared
Bring a presentation, speech, or talking points you want to practice. This is ideal when you have an upcoming work presentation, wedding speech, or any speaking event on the horizon.
Exercises Tailored to YOU
This is where SpeakCalmHQ Practice Clubs truly shine. We use gradual exposure and systematic desensitization—the gold-standard approach for anxiety treatment. Here’s how it works:
- Tell the facilitator what you need: Too easy? Too hard? Let them know so they can adjust.
- Choose your duration: 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, or 2 minutes (occasionally up to 5 minutes for special presentations).
- Select question difficulty: From easy warm-ups to very challenging scenarios.
⏱️ Duration Guidelines
Typical duration: Up to 1 minute per person (so everyone gets practice time)
Special cases: Up to 3-5 minutes if you’re practicing a specific presentation or speech you’re about to give
Question Difficulty Levels
We can adjust the complexity to match your current comfort level:
🟢 Easy: “What do you like about where you live?”
🟡 Medium: “What apps do you use and how do you use them?”
🟠 Difficult: “What is happiness?”
🔴 Very Challenging:
- Express a controversial opinion in a group where you don’t know if they agree with you
- Role-play a work scenario with conflict
- Handle Q&A after your talk
- Get interrupted mid-talk with questions (friendly or hostile)
What Makes SpeakCalmHQ Practice Clubs Different?
Most practice clubs don’t offer this level of customization and psychological insight. Here’s what sets us apart:
1️⃣ Flexibility in Content
You choose what you want to practice—prepared speeches or impromptu responses.
2️⃣ Gradual Exposure
We use systematic desensitization to keep you in the 4-6 anxiety “sweet spot”—not too easy, not overwhelming.
3️⃣ Anxiety Is Welcome
We encourage you to talk about your anxiety with the group and process your experience as you speak.
4️⃣ Practice MAP/HEART
Use the groups to practice the MAP System and HEART Protocol techniques in real-time, not just public speaking itself.
Why Impromptu Speaking Is So Powerful
Practicing impromptu speaking is especially valuable for people with public speaking anxiety. Here’s why:
1. Loosens You Up
People with public speaking anxiety are often uptight—internally focused, physically tense, afraid of making mistakes, very restrained, wanting to think everything through before speaking, reserved, and afraid of judgment.
Impromptu helps you realize: You can be authentic and be yourself, and nothing horrible happens. You can be more free and more YOU, and you’re not kicked out of the group—nothing dangerous happens.
2. Builds Confidence in Handling the Unexpected
Impromptu teaches you that you can handle whatever comes your way. The more you practice, the more you trust that you can respond to any question or situation. This builds genuine confidence.
3. Reduces Perfectionism
Impromptu forces you to reduce your perfectionistic standards. It teaches you that getting your key point across “good enough” is good enough. You don’t have to be brilliant, witty, or charming to be part of a group and to be understood.
